This workshop is designed to unite researchers from the Commonwealth of Virginia who are interested in exploring both the privacy implications of online applications and the development and implementation of privacy-enhancing technologies (PET) for diverse user segments. By showcasing past work and fostering discussions on future directions, the event provides a unique forum for building new interdisciplinary partnerships and sparking innovative collaborations. The workshop will cover topics ranging from emerging methods to privacy-enhancing technologies to large-scale privacy and security measurements. This event is open to all researchers and students within the CCI network as well as the broader privacy and security research community. We will bring together experts from diverse disciplines to explore interdisciplinary approaches to PIA research. Key topics include:

• Privacy Implications in Online Applications (covering websites, mobile apps, smart devices, AR/VR, etc.)
• Privacy Implications for Users with Disabilities
• Large-scale Measurements for Security and Privacy
• AI Language Technologies For Transparent Human-Computer Interactions

This in-person workshop will take place at Virginia Tech – Gilbert Place on May 8th, 2025. The program will feature keynote presentations, talks by faculty and students, and breakout discussion sessions. Unlike traditional conferences, the workshop will focus on exploring understudied aspects of user privacy protection from the perspectives of various stakeholders, covering human factors, application development, and the broader ecosystem. Registration is free, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and knowledge-sharing. Coffee, light refreshments, and lunch will be provided. Participants are encouraged to arrange their own transportation and accommodations.
